Abstract: During Verona’s Congress, Gioachino Rossini was the protagonist of musical events. His presence was strongly desired by Metternich. The composer’s operas and cantatas performed in the city between September and December 1822 shed light on peculiar features of the Restoration, such as the reference to figures representing regality or to political issues considered sensitive (if not problematic) during the period of the Congress.
