«Code», «charte», «catéchisme», «système» : le romantisme sous le scalpel de la satire (1819-1852)

Abstract

Résumé: Parler de canon à propos d’un mouvement qui a fait du rejet de toute règle sa principale raison d’être peut sembler incongru. C’est pourtant ce qui ressort du corpus de textes, satiriques pour la plupart, pris en considération dans ces pages. Non seulement les romantiques ont remplacé un «système» littéraire par un autre, donc un code par un autre code, mais ils ont appliqué ce code à leur manière de penser, d’écrire et même d’être. De là des conséquences en termes de poétique et d’esthétique, mais aussi quant au mode de vie prescrit au « poète », lui-même formaté.

Abstract: To talk of canon for a movement who made of the refusal of any rule its pri­mary reason of existence may seem incongruous. However, this is what appears from a corpus of texts, mainly satirical ones, which are taken into consideration in these pages. Not only romantic artists replaced a literary system by another, that is to say a code by another code, but they also applied this code to their way of thinking, writing and also being. Hence, some consequences can be drawn, in terms of poetics and aesthetics, but also with regard to the prescriptions concerning the way of life of the «poet», who is al­so «formatted».
