Las leyendas de José Zorilla en el canon poético del romanticismo europeo

Abstract

Resumen: Este artículo analiza la relación del poeta español José Zorrilla con el canon literario del romanticismo en un sentido amplio; como un conjunto de modelos que le sirvieron para la construcción de su identidad artística, examinando el lugar del poe­ta en el amplio contexto del canon de escritores del romanticismo español, y con refe­rencia también, a la lista de las obras canónicas de Zorrilla. El mayor número de testi­monios críticos en el siglo XIX sobre Zorrilla proviene de la crítica francesa y se centra en analizar el motivo de su prodigiosa fama dentro y fuera de España, mientras trata de predecir la evolución de esa fama en el canon literario del futuro. La opinión coinciden­te es que sus leyendas poéticas representan lo mejor de la producción del poeta y lo que, sin duda, pasará a la posteridad.

Abstract: This paper analyzes the relationship of the Spanish poet José Zorrilla with the literary canon of Romanticism in a broad sense; as a set of models that served him for the construction of his artistic identity, examining the place of the poet in the bro­ad context of the canon of writers of Spanish Romanticism, and with reference, also, to the list of the canonical works of Zorrilla according to the contemporary French litera­ry criticism. The largest number of testimonies about Zorrilla is provided by French cri­ticism and it focuses in analyzing the reason for the prodigious fame of Zorrilla, inside and outside Spain, while trying to predict the evolution of that fame in the literary ca­non of the future. The coincident opinion is that his poetic legends represent the best of the poet’s production and what will keep into the posterity.
